What type of blade does a jigsaw use?

Hello everyone, I'm Xiaoyu, a salesperson from Hailian Saw Industry. Today I would like to introduce the jigsaw, which is one of the most commonly used handheld power tools in metalworking. Its cutting tool is called a "jig saw blade", which has a shape similar to the letters T or U. There are many types of jig saws with different characteristics, such as T-shank blades, U-shank blades, toothed blades, tungsten steel blades, and reverse-tooth blades.

Now let's take a look at the different shapes and types of jig saw blade:

T-shank blades:

T-shank blades are more common and have two protrusions between the heads that match the chuck on the saw bed. This makes changing the blade very quick and easy because you only need to press a button to install or remove the blade. This type of blade is suitable for processing materials such as softwood, hardwood, plastics, acrylics, and organic glass.

U-shank blades:

U-shank blades do not have protrusions and their heads are inverted U shaped. This type of blade is usually used in low-power jigsaws. Unlike T-shank blades, removing or installing this blade requires screw fixing. In addition, U-shank blades are less common than T-shank blades. They are suitable for processing soft materials such as leather and softwood.

Toothed blades:

Toothed blades are usually used for rough work that does not require high material requirements, such as drilling or quickly cutting on board. This type of blade is made of metal and has some serrated grooves that can quickly cut thick materials, such as wood, particleboard, aluminum, and steel.

Tungsten steel blades:

Tungsten steel blades can maintain their sharpness for a longer period of time. They are usually used for processing hard materials such as aluminum, steel, and copper. This type of blade is more durable than other types of blades, but the cost of use is also higher.

Reverse-tooth blades:

Reverse-tooth blades are a type of blade with teeth in the opposite direction. This design makes the cutting process smoother, avoiding vibration and other problems. This type of blade is suitable for processing thin plates.

Jig saw blade sizes:

In addition to blade types, they are also divided into different sizes. Generally, the length of a jigsaw blade is between 2-4 inches. The width varies depending on the material. For example, blades used to cut metal are generally narrower, while those used to cut wood are longer.

In summary

We have introduced various types and sizes of jigsaw blades. They are usually used to cut wood and metal products because their hardness is different, so different tools are needed to cut them. Therefore, when cutting, be sure to choose the right blade according to the item being cut to improve efficiency.
